Say Goodbye to your Holiday Hangover with these Ayurvedic remedies!

Updated: May 24

We all know it's the season to indulge - whether you've eaten one too many Christmas lunches or cocktails, here are a couple of ways you can use the wisdom of Ayurveda to recover quickly!

You might find it interesting to know that people with Pitta constitution tend to get drunk faster than people with Kapha Prakriti! Hangovers are often caused by an excess of toxins in the body, which can cause headaches, nausea, and fatigue. It goes without saying, but hydration is SO important, so keep that glass of water nearby and if you can - have a big drink of water BEFORE bed. If you wake up feeling heaving and have a pounding head - or even a bloated belly from too much food, try these:

  1. Hot (or Cold) Lemon

When you wake, boil the kettle and place a few slices of fresh lemon into a cup, if you like add some honey! Lemon helps to stimulate the digestive system first thing and water will help to keep you hydrated. If you prefer, add some ice cubes and make it a cold drink.

2. Ginger Tea

Helps relieve nausea and headaches. Boil some water with few pieces of ginger, when it cools down, add some honey and add a few drops of lemon and drink.

3. Tomato Juice

Tomatoes contain a natural sugar called fructose which helps metabolise the alcohol quicker. Ayurveda recommends fresh juice for maximum prana.

4. Salt

Salt can help reduce intoxication and help the liver which gets battered by the excessive alcohol intake. So let your savoury side indulge your hangover!

5. Peppermint Tea

Relieves an upset stomach and bloating - scrunch up some mint leaves into hot water or use a peppermint tea bag.

Remember that life is all about balance - it's not about being perfect and if you’ve ever indulged in alcohol or even too much food, you’re going to have to the odd day where it just felt a little too much.
