MOUNTAINS + MYTHS

YOGA RETREAT TO SRI LANKA

Imagine waking up in the heart of Sri Lanka, high in the mountains and attuning to the rhythm of nature.

Wake up with daily yoga where the ancient stories of gods and goddesses come to life as you flow through your practice. You spend the day exploring local villages, walk to a tucked away waterfall for a picnic, or swim in the lake.

In the evening you enjoy a restorative practice to ground and reset. As you walk towards the yoga shala, the air is thick with the scent of incense and the soft glow of lanterns illuminates the surroundings, casting ethereal shadows that dance like divine beings.

Squeeze into a tuk-tuk with the wind in your hair passing local villages to visit Buddhist temples where you’ll hear the soft chanting of monks and ancient caves adorned with intricate carvings.

Delicious plant-based meals, sourced from local ingredients and lovingly prepared are an adventure for your senses, shared with new friends over conversation on the veranda.

Join Sara for an unforgettable 7-day luxury yoga retreat in the mountains of Sri Lanka.

Immerse yourself in the beauty of nature, surrounded by lush mountains and tea plantations, not to mention the serenity of Rukgala, a repurposed Colonial-era home that is now a luxury retreat home on the shores of Lake Victoria.

Twice daily yoga practices provide the nurturing needed to return to your mind and body, a fluid focused start to the day and a supported way to wind down in the evening.

With 360-degree views of the mountains and a breathtaking open-air yoga Shala to enrich your practice, you will feel worlds away but ever present to experience tranquility and connection in this island paradise.

Mountains and Myths Sri Lanka Yoga Retreat 2025

The Yoga Shala

Your day begins with moving mythology flow where we bring the ancient gods and goddesses to life through our yoga practice.

Our purpose built yoga shala is nestled amidst the lush grounds, as you move mindfully through your vinyasa practice - the sounds of nature surround you - rustling leaves, the distant call of birds, and the gentle murmur of a nearby stream. You feel a deep sense of connection to the land and its ancient stories, a profound appreciation for the beauty and simplicity of life.

After an invigorating practice, we’ll refresh with fresh King coconuts, their cool, sweet water revitalising your body and soul, their natural goodness a testament to the island's bountiful resources.

We then sit down to a delicious Sri Lankan vegetarian breakfast, prepared with ingredients sourced directly from the garden. The meal is a feast for the senses, featuring local dishes like pol sambol, a spicy coconut relish, kiribath, creamy coconut milk rice, as well as smoothie bowls, avocados and a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables bursting with flavour. Each bite is a celebration of the island's rich culinary heritage, nourishing your body and delighting your taste buds.

In the evening we’ll wind down with a quiet and introspective practice, enjoying deep rest accompanied by more storytelling and yoga Nidra to set you up for a restful evening!

And it wouldn’t be a Bloom retreat if there weren’t ample props! This beautiful yoga Shala is fully equipped with mats, blocks, belts and bolsters so we can be fully supported in our practices together…and you can save room in your suitcase for shopping at the local markets in Kandy!

Luxury Yoga Retreat Accomodation

The journey up the winding roads has been an adventure in itself, with each turn revealing breathtaking vistas of emerald-green valleys and cascading waterfalls. Your retreat residence is a sanctuary of tranquility, nestled amidst lush tea plantations and ancient forests. The architecture blends seamlessly with the natural surroundings, with large windows and open spaces that invite the beauty of the outdoors inside. The gentle sound of a nearby stream and the distant call of exotic birds create a soothing symphony that immediately puts you at ease.

You are greeted with a warm smile and a refreshing herbal tea, made from locally sourced ingredients. As you sip your tea, you take in the panoramic views from the veranda, where the rolling hills stretch out as far as the eye can see, bathed in the golden light of the setting sun.

Inside, the retreat is a haven of comfort and elegance. The rooms are adorned with handcrafted furniture and vibrant textiles, each piece telling a story of Sri Lanka's rich cultural heritage. The scent of fresh flowers and an aroma of spices fills the air, creating an atmosphere of peace and relaxation.

Meet Your Retreat Host

Sara Evans ~ Senior Yoga Teacher

Sara has lovingly guided students into their bodies through yoga asana for more than 15 years. She brings both warmth and wisdom to all of her classes; cleverly weaving philosophy, the use of yoga props and her one-of-a-kind humour to give a grounding and yet open-hearted experience for all practitioners.

More than a yoga teacher, Sara is an intrepid world traveller! Having explored many corners of this big wide world, Sara first travelled to Sri Lanka with her husband and son in 2009, it was here that her son celebrated his first birthday and a few days later where he learned to crawl!

In fact it was whilst practicing yoga in Sri Lanka that Sara made the decision to undertake the study of yoga upon her return to Perth - which she did in March of 2009!

Sri Lanka is a delight to the senses: sights, smells and tastes abound!

This country is not only rich in it’s culture and culinary delights, but it’s people make you feel as though this your home - and trust me when I say you will have a hard time leaving!

I can’t wait to share all the secrets and the senses that await us on retreat high in the hill country of Sri Lanka!

 YOGA RETREAT FAQs

  • The capital of Sri Lanka is Colombo - and this is where we’ll meet to begin our retreat! Flights to Colombo connect through Singapore, Hong Kong and many airports in India.

  • Yes! Absolutely! Solo travellers are welcome. If you’re travelling from Perth you can tag along with our group - or meet up with us in Singapore on our layover to Colombo.

  • Yes, everyone is welcome from beginners to experienced yogis, it does not matter where you are in your practice. Once you have confirmed your participation in the retreat, we will be sending you a questionnaire which will allow our yoga teacher and Island cook to best support your needs and ensure you get the most out of your participation in the Retreat. Due to the intimacy of the group, you will get the opportunity to have one on one time with your teacher, to explore your yoga practice and take it as deep or as simple and relaxing as you need.

  • All the meals will be made fresh, using local ingredients to create healthy delicious vegetarian nourishment to support our yoga practices. Vegan options also available on request. If you have any specific dietary requirements, please ensure you list them on the questionnaire which we will email you upon receipt of your booking.

  • We want you to create a retreat experience that aligns with YOU - that’s why most of the excursions are optional - so you can choose when to take time to rest and reflect or venture into the tea plantations or local villages to explore…there really is something for everyone!

  • Yoga Retreat attire is all about comfort and ease. Keep in mind that Sri Lanka is humid, so light clothing is recommended. The important thing is being able to remove layers in the heat and keep warm if it gets a little chilly in the evening, or at the end of class in Savasana/Meditation.

    • Casual clothing that is loose and easy to move in.

    • A shawl or wrap: This allows you to stay cosy during Savasana/Meditation, and use to cover up in temples.

    • Hair bands or hair ties: This is something we so often forget, but essential for keeping your hair out of your face when you’re doing yoga, swimming, hiking or paddleboarding.

    • Comfortable shoes: Easy to wear, slip on shoes are perfect. If you plan on doing some hikes, then more sturdy non-slip shoes or boots are recommended so you can truely embrace the outdoors.

    • Swimmers, a Hat, mozzie repellent, sunscreen, sunglasses and a water bottle: It will be warm and sunny during the day, so remember to keep hydrated!

    • Yoga mat and props: Yoga mats and bolsters will be provided, but if you’d prefer to bring your own or any props which make you feel comfortable, please feel free to pack them.

    • A good book and a journal: Journaling is a great way to record your thoughts and remind yourself of the incredible experience you had when you return home.

  • That’s wonderful! As a seasoned traveller, I will help you every step of the way to make sure that your trip is smooth. I’ve planned as much as I can so that you can enjoy the experience and not have to worry about the little details!
