Autumn Yoga in Perth: Grounding Practices for Vata Season

As the golden light of summer softens and the air begins to cool, autumn arrives quietly here in Perth.

For me, this is my favourite season of the year.

There’s something about the shift—the slower mornings, the softer light, the invitation to turn inward—that feels like a long exhale after the fullness of summer.

In Ayurveda, April and May are governed by Vata dosha—the energy of air and space.

Vata is light, dry, cool and constantly moving… much like the winds that begin to weave through this time of year.

While this energy can bring creativity and clarity, it can also leave us feeling:

  • unsettled

  • fatigued

  • a little scattered

And so, the invitation of autumn is not to do more…
but to come back to ground.

Why Grounding Yoga Matters in Autumn

This is where our yoga practice becomes something more intuitive.

In Vata season, we’re not chasing intensity—we’re cultivating steadiness.

We might lean into:

  • slower, more intentional movement

  • longer-held, supported shapes

  • breath that soothes rather than stimulates

  • moments of stillness woven throughout

These practices support the nervous system, restore energy, and bring us back into a sense of quiet balance.

Because sometimes, the most powerful practice…
is the one where do nothing at all!

A Personal Note on Seasonal Rhythm

Over the years, I’ve come to trust these seasonal shifts; there’s a powerful familiarity leaning into the ebbs and flows.

To let autumn be a time of softening rather than striving.

It’s a return to simple rituals—warm tea, earlier evenings, slower mornings—and practices that feel grounding, nourishing, and steady.

This is the rhythm I return to… again and again.

Rest + Ritual: A Seasonal Pause in Perth

In honour of seasonal transitions—and particularly because this the season that I love so much—I’m offering my signature seasonal pause:

Rest + Ritual | Sunday 26th April | 10am - 11.30am | $37

A seasonal reset to help you land, ground, and reconnect.

Together, we’ll:

  • soften into restorative, supported shapes

  • settle the nervous system through breath and stillness

  • be guided through a simple, grounding ritual

It’s a quiet exhale…
a moment to come back to yourself.
