Golden Milk Recipe + Ayurvedic Winter Wellness Benefits
As the weather cools and winter settles in, I naturally find myself craving warmer, more grounding rituals — slow mornings, nourishing meals, herbal teas, and comforting Ayurvedic practices that support the body through seasonal change.
One ritual I return to every year is golden milk.
Made with turmeric, warming spices and nourishing milk, golden milk has long been used in Ayurveda to support digestion, immunity, circulation and overall wellbeing during the colder months. It’s simple, soothing, and feels a little like medicine wrapped inside comfort.
Turmeric is one of the most widely used spices in Ayurvedic cooking and traditional remedies, largely thanks to curcumin — the active compound responsible for many of turmeric’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Traditionally, turmeric has been used to support the liver, digestive system, joints, immune health and overall vitality.
In Ayurveda, turmeric is often used to help balance the doshas, particularly kapha during winter, when heaviness, sluggish digestion and congestion can become more dominant.
And while there are many ways to enjoy turmeric — in curries, soups, teas and smoothies — one of my favourite preparations is this simple homemade golden paste recipe.
For me, golden milk is less about the recipe itself and more about the ritual of slowing down. A warm mug in the evening, soft lighting, a nourishing practice, and a reminder that wellness doesn’t always need to be complicated.
Golden Milk as Ritual in Lunar Sadhana
Within our 8-week Lunar Sadhana women’s yoga immersion, we explore practice as something cyclical rather than linear — honouring the natural rhythm of expansion, energy, rest and release reflected through the moon cycle and the feminine body.
As the practices soften during our more mellow weeks, we’ll gather in simple ritual with warming golden turmeric milk shared together at the close of practice.
These quieter evenings are designed to nourish the nervous system and invite deeper rest through restorative movement, breathwork, reflection and stillness.
In many ways, golden milk reflects the spirit of Lunar Sadhana itself:
warming, grounding, soothing and deeply supportive.
More than simply a drink, it becomes part of the ritual — a gentle pause to reconnect, regulate and soften into the season we’re in, both internally and externally.
There is something deeply comforting about sitting in circle with other women, a warm mug in hand, allowing ourselves to slow down together.
If you feel drawn to practices that honour the feminine through movement, ritual, rest and cyclical wisdom, you can explore our upcoming Lunar Sadhana immersionhere.
