Sequencing with Purpose | Yoga Teacher Training

Create meaningful classes. Teach with intention. Plan less.

Great sequencing isn't about constantly creating something new.

It's about understanding why you are choosing what you teach, how each element of a practice works together, and how to adapt what you already know to create classes that feel fresh, purposeful and relevant to the students in front of you.

Sequencing with Purpose is a 25-hour professional development training for yoga teachers who want to move beyond simply linking postures together and develop a more thoughtful, confident approach to class planning.

Upcoming Training Dates: 14 + 15 November 2026

Work smarter with the sequences you already have

Repetition isn't a lack of creativity — it's part of how we learn.

When students encounter familiar postures and sequences over time, they have the opportunity to move beyond simply doing a shape and begin to learn it — developing greater body awareness, confidence and understanding through their own lived experience.

As teachers, this gives us permission to stop constantly chasing novelty. Instead, we can revisit, refine and repurpose familiar sequences, changing the intention, emphasis, language, pace or energetic lens while allowing students the benefit of repetition.

You'll learn how to use repetition purposefully — creating familiarity without making your classes feel repetitive.

This approach allows you to:

  • Spend less time planning classes

  • Build a library of adaptable sequences you can return to

  • Teach familiar movement in fresh and meaningful ways

  • Become more responsive to the students in front of you

  • Use repetition intentionally to build confidence and familiarity

  • Develop greater confidence in your own teaching

  • Create classes that have a clearer and more lasting impact

Rather than asking, "What am I going to teach this week?" you'll begin to think, "What does this practice need to communicate?"

Physical + Anatomical Sequencing

We'll explore the mechanics behind intuitive sequencing, including:

  • Balancing symmetry + asymmetry

  • Contraction + release

  • Internal + external rotation

  • Variations on warm-up sequences

  • Neutral, parallel and counterposes within dynamic sequences

  • Efficient sequencing of muscle activation

  • Thoughtful transitions

  • Use repetition to help students learn — rather than simply do — yoga postures

  • Sequencing anatomically beyond the traditional idea of a "peak pose"

  • Adapting sequences for different bodies, abilities and intentions

The aim isn't to give you a formula to follow, but to empower you with the understanding to sequence confidently, creatively and with purpose.

From Sequence to Experience

Throughout the training we'll bring these different elements together and consider the whole experience of a class — from the moment students arrive through to the final moments of rest.

You'll have opportunities to experiment, create, adapt and teach rather than simply listening to theory.

Together we'll explore how small changes in intention, language, pacing or practice can completely transform the experience of the same sequence.

You'll leave with practical tools you can use immediately in your own teaching — along with a more sustainable approach to class planning that allows you to spend less time reinventing and more time refining.

You'll learn how to create sequences with:

  • Clarity of purpose

  • Creativity + confidence

  • An understanding of the mechanics of the body

  • Awareness of how practices affect students physically and energetically

  • Themes that add depth without feeling forced

  • Enough flexibility to adapt to different students, seasons and teaching environments
